How Do You Think So Far Ahead

Art Direction, Motion Graphics, & Design: Kandace Selnick

Created for Jacob Verdoni’s How Do You Think So Far Ahead single release, the artwork explored themes of darkness, tension, and emotional vulnerability through a layered and atmospheric visual language. Distorted scanned typography, grain textures, and abstract forms were combined to create a gritty yet delicate composition that reflected the emotional weight and rawness of the music.

Inspired by tension between chaos and fragility, the design used warped text, movement, and contrasting textures to create a sense of instability against a softer, abstract backdrop. The result was a cinematic visual expression that drew viewers into the project’s emotional world while revealing moments of beauty within darkness and despair.

Inspired by the songs lyrics “You’re pushing my head under water, Boil my lungs as you solder, You’re pushing me down, down,” this design captures the essence of struggle and suffocation. The warped, distorted text paired with a grainy texture creates a grungy, gritty tone that contrasts starkly with the serene beauty of water illuminated by light.

The dynamic, rushed nature of the graphic conveys a sense of disruption and drowning, evoking feelings of loss of control and powerlessness. This juxtaposition between chaos and beauty aims to immerse the viewer in the emotional intensity of the experience.
